Problem
Water Loss Management in remote Aboriginal Communities
Solution
Our team deployed to various remote locations across Western Australia to conduct leak detection and repairs to water distribution networks. The project involved conducting leak detection, installation of new isolation valves, hydrants, and flushing points in remote Indigenous communities.
Communities completed to date include Bindi Bindi (Onslow), Gooda Binya (Marble Bar), Irrungadji (Nullagine), Ardayaloon, Beagle Bay, Djarindjin, Burringurrah, Mardiwah Loop, and Mowanjum. Success was achieved through careful coordination with local communities and cultural awareness, ensuring access to high-quality water and reducing water loss.
Warlitj performed all tasks within set timeframes, causing no disruption to EMOS or Defence operations in the sensitive environment at Bindoon Special Forces Training Facility (BSTF). Range Control staff have praised their conduct on the range as exemplary, and EMOS technicians have similarly provided positive feedback on the works and the professional manner in which they were carried out.

David Macdonald and his team delivered a professional service while respecting our cultural requirements. They communicated effectively with residents, providing clear updates about their work and ensuring adequate notification when water supply interruptions were necessary. The crew's efforts to engage with the community, including gifting baseball caps to children, fostered a positive experience. Warlitj demonstrated professionalism and respect throughout the project, and we look forward to collaborating with them again to enhance our water supply.”

Not only did they complete the project on time, but they adhered to Defence’s stringent technical and safety requirements without missing a beat.
